Why are Code Officers perceived with such negativity?
Code Officers have historically been perceived as a negative part of city government by its citizens because typically it is the department that has to say "no" to the community. In reality however the code officer is there to protect the community's "quality of life". Code Officers are here to educate the residents rather than to force compliance. By inspecting properties and meeting with residents, the Code Division will help you to understand the reason for the ordinance and how it effects you and your community. Most citizens cherish there right to have the "quiet enjoyment of their property" and the Code Division is here to help with meeting that expectation.
