The City of Lancaster adopted the 2021 ICC Model Codes with all NCTCOG local amendments.  All contractors and design professional must reference the following codes in your construction drawings:

  • 2021 International Residential Code
  • 2021 International Building Code
  • 2021 International Plumbing Code
  • 2021 International Mechanical Code
  • 2021 Energy Conservation Code
  • 2021 Existing Building Code
  • 2021 Pool and Spa Code
  • 2021 Fuel and Gas Code
  • 2021 International Property Maintenance

About the Building Inspection Division

The Building Inspection Division is established for the purpose of providing minimum standards to safeguard life, health, safety, property, and the public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, occupancy, use, location, and maintenance of all buildings and structures constructed within the City of Lancaster.


Division Activities

The primary activities of the Building Inspection Division are:

  • On-site Inspections to verify compliance with the International Codes
  • Permit issuance
  • Plan review
  • Public consultation

Other Activities

 The Building Inspection Division also works closely with the Planning Division, Engineering Division, Public Works Department, and the Fire Marshal's Office to enhance the city's overall ability to better serve the citizens of Lancaster.
