Department responsibilities:
  • Developing and managing procedures pertaining to civil service and personnel
  • Developing and managing recruitment, training, risk management and policy development
  • Maintaining positive employee relations
  • Managing the city's compensation and benefit plans
  • Managing and producing the city's employee payroll
  • Monitoring policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations

The City of Lancaster is committed to providing physical activity and wellness opportunities for our employees. We have been recognized as a 2014-2016 Gold Level Recipient of the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Worksites Recognition program.

What is a Fit-Friendly Worksite?


The Fit-Friendly Worksites program is a catalyst for positive change. Worksites throughout the nation can be part of the initiative by making the health and wellness of their employees a priority. The City of Lancaster was recognized as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. initiative for:

  • Offering employees physical activity support.
  • Providing/increasing healthy eating options at the worksite.
  • Promoting a wellness culture.
  • Implementing at least 9 criteria as outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.
