Municipal Court Week

In recognition of the important service the City’s municipal court judges, court clerks, court administrators, prosecutors, bailiffs, and warrant officers provide to the community, the Mayor of Lancaster issued a proclamation on October 24, 2016 declaring November 7th – 11th Municipal Court Week.

Municipal Court Week is a great time to not only recognize how much municipal courts do, but to note the role that local courts and their personnel play in the criminal justice system and the larger community. The Lancaster Municipal Court processes over 11,000 cases annually and employs four full time employees who process Class C Misdemeanors and guide the operations of the Court in compliance with all state and federal laws. This task involves many hours of advanced training and a high level of expertise in positive customer service.
  • You can pay for most of your citations online.
  • You can have a trial in Municipal Court if you plead not guilty.
  • You can represent yourself in Municipal Court.
  • You may be contacted to serve as a juror in your City.
The Municipal Court is located at 220 W. Main Street, Lancaster, TX 75146.  The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  For more information about the Municipal Court, call (972) 218-1334 or click HERE

Say NO to Illegal Dumping!

What is Illegal Dumping?
Illegal Dumping occurs when a person places, deposits, dumps or accumulates refuse on or in any public or private street, public right-of-way or easement, gutter or sidewalk within the Lancaster City limits.

Why is Illegal Dumping a problem?
When illegal dumping occurs, the damage to neighborhoods and the environment can be severe:

  • Property values decline.
  • Unreported illegal dumping often results in more illegal dumping.
  • Illegally dumped material can become a breeding ground for vectors, such as mice, rats and mosquitoes, which can spread diseases such as encephalitis, Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome and West Nile Disease.
  • Illegal dumping is hazardous to the environment. From refrigerators to tires to auto parts to televisions, many contain heavy metals and other toxins.
  • Illegal dumping piles pose a traffic hazard when left in the public right-of-way.
  • Illegal dumping costs taxpayers money.
Legal Alternatives to dispose of your unwanted items:
  • Take your waste to the CWD transfer station located at 2010 California Crossing Dallas, TX 75220. A copy of your water bill is required.
  • Order a special pick up at 972-218-1300. This allows residents to schedule a pickup of bulky waste for a fee.
  • Take advantage of the Trash-off events (November 5th).
  • Move the unwanted items away from public view until the next Bulk/brush collection.
How can You Help?
Report it! Call 972-218-1200 and provide information that leads to a citation of the illegal dumper.

Get Your Family Tree Growing Again

Welton R. and Mildred Chapman Fail were untiring supporters of the Lancaster Genealogical Society and the Lancaster Library. The Fails worked vigorously to replace the research material lost during the April 25, 1994 tornado. The genealogy section was named after them when the library moved into its new building in 2001. The Genealogical Resource Center contains a collection of materials for family history research. The materials come in a variety of formats such as books, CDs, microfilm, microfiche, brochures, and electronic resources. Please call 972-227-1080 for questions.

Zika Virus Precautions

Pregnant?
If you develop the symptoms of Zika, see a healthcare provider right away for testing. Testing is recommended for pregnant women at their first prenatal care visit.

Your Best Protection: Prevent Mosquito Bites
Clothing: Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants. Treat clothing and gear with permethrin or purchase permethrin-treated items.
  • Treated clothing remains protective after multiple washings. If treating items yourself, follow the product instructions carefully.
  • Do NOT use permethrin products directly on skin. They are intended to treat clothing.
Indoor Protection:
Stay in places with air conditioning or that use window and door screens to keep mosquitoes outside. Sleep under a mosquito bed net if air conditioned or screened rooms are not available or if sleeping outdoors.

Repellent:
Use Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)- registered insect repellents. When used as directed, these insect repellents are safe and effective for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Residents can pick up mosquito dunks and repellents at City Hall or at 700 E. Main St.

Storm Water Pollution Prevention

•The best way to protect stormwater runoff quality is to avoid polluting in the first place. Conserve and recycle resources such as newspaper, plastic containers, glass jars, and metal cans.
•Practice street sweeping, picking up litter, and disposing of leaves and yard waste.
•Keep grass clippings, leaves, lawn care, automotive and household’s chemicals out of the storm drain system. Participate in local garbage and debris pickup days; recycle household’s hazardous waste materials to prevent storm drain contamination.
•Prevent sewage overflows to the streams by diverting drains away from the sanitary sewer system. Report any overflows to the Wastewater Department at 972-275-1752.
