A Message from the Fire Chief

Welcome to the Lancaster Fire Department (LFD) website. It is my honor to serve the nearly 40,000 residents and visitors of the City of Lancaster as Fire Chief. I am proud to lead the men and women of LFD that have pledged to risk their safety for your wellbeing.  Our department’s mission is “To provide a well-prepared team of professionals dedicated to our community by safely protecting lives and property through public education and emergency response."

I have challenged our team to remember three E’s while carrying out our mission:

  • Effective - Meaning what we do must produce the desired outcomes;
  • Efficient – Meaning we must obtain a return that is equal to or greater than the resources that we invest; and
  • Enjoyable – Meaning we should strive to create a work environment that encourages high performance and positive interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.

I am committed to make use of my thirty-two plus years’ of experience, knowledge gained from the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program; and the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Program sponsored by Texas A&M University in the ongoing development of our department to not only meet but exceed the expectation of the citizens of Lancaster.

We would love to meet you so stop by your local fire stations if you have questions, would like to tour the station, or just to say hello our doors are always open!

Sincerely,

Kenneth L. Johnson, Fire Chief
