Earth Day Celebration

 
Join us as we celebrate Earth Day with Oncor and Atmos Energy on Saturday, April 23rd from 7:30am to 12:00pm. The City will partner with Oncor Electric Delivery and Atmos Energy for the Annual Earth Day Celebration held at Bear Creek Nature Park. Projects for the day will include annual color bed plantings, Butterfly Garden installation, and more. A tree dedication ceremony will also be held to commemorate recent tree plantings by Atmos Energy, generously donated by the Texas Tree Foundation.

Relay For Life: Get Involved

 
The City of Lancaster is supporting the American Cancer Society and participating in Relay For Life. We would love for you to join Team Lancaster. Every Relay For Life event is a time for family and friends to honor cancer survivors, remember those lost to this disease, and raise funds and awareness to help end cancer forever.
By joining TEAM LANCASTER and helping us fundraise, more people in more communities:

Animal Cruelty Workshop


You are invited to attend the Animal Cruelty workshop taking place on Saturday, May 21, 2016 starting at 2:00pm at the Recreation Center located at 1700 Veterans Memorial Pkwy. The workshop will be hosted by our special guest, Ms. Felicia Kerney, Assistant District Attorney at Dallas County.

Ms. Kerney will be sharing her expertise on how to recognize and combat animal cruelty by knowing, interpreting, and applying cruelty and fighting laws in Texas.

Zika Virus Precautions


Pregnant?
If you develop the symptoms of Zika, see a healthcare provider right away for testing. Testing is recommended for pregnant women at their first prenatal care visit.

Your Best Protection: Prevent Mosquito Bites
Clothing: Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants. Treat clothing and gear with permethrin or purchase permethrin-treated items.
  • Treated clothing remains protective after multiple washings. If treating items yourself, follow the product instructions carefully.
  • Do NOT use permethrin products directly on skin. They are intended to treat clothing.
Indoor Protection:
Stay in places with air conditioning or that use window and door screens to keep mosquitoes outside. Sleep under a mosquito bed net if air conditioned or screened rooms are not available or if sleeping outdoors.

Repellent:
Use Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)- registered insect repellents. When used as directed, these insect repellents are safe and effective for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Road Improvement Projects Status

 
Danieldale Rd Improvement Project Phase: Construction
Limits of Project I-35 to Houston School Rd
Scope of Work Reconstruction of Danieldale Road, close storm system, and curb inlets. Intersection improvements at Daniedale Road and Houston School Road to include an east bound left and right turn lane and a traffic signal.
Project Status Final plans have been approved by the City staff & TxDOT. ROW acquisitions are completed for utility relocation. Franchise utility relocation is expected to be complete by mid April 2016. City has awarded the contract for construction. Road construction will commence in April 2016.

Storm Water Pollution Prevention


•The best way to protect stormwater runoff quality is to avoid polluting in the first place. Conserve and recycle resources such as newspaper, plastic containers, glass jars, and metal cans.
•Practice street sweeping, picking up litter, and disposing of leaves and yard waste.
•Keep grass clippings, leaves, lawn care, automotive and household’s chemicals out of the storm drain system. Participate in local garbage and debris pickup days; recycle household’s hazardous waste materials to prevent storm drain contamination.
•Prevent sewage overflows to the streams by diverting drains away from the sanitary sewer system. Report any overflows to the Wastewater Department.

Lancaster Eyes & Ears Program:


The City of Lancaster Code Compliance Division is seeking volunteers to join the Lancaster Eyes and Ears program (LEEP)

The LEEP program will primarily perform duties in the field identifying code violations for code officers to perform further investigation. The program is intended to have volunteers aid city staff in improving and preserving the quality of life in our community. These volunteers will help act as the “eyes and ears” in residential and commercial neighborhoods to staff code compliance officers. Citizens are key to identifying potentially serious problems.

Qualifications:

Volunteers are requested to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per week. Work schedules are flexible based on your availability but are limited to daytime hours.  Volunteers must possess a Texas class “C” driver’s license, successfully complete a  background check and drug test, and reside in the City of Lancaster.

Streets are maintained by the city, but the repair and replacement of damaged sidewalk slabs are the responsibility of the homeowner whose property is adjacent to the sidewalk. To help with that responsibility, the City of Lancaster offers property owners the opportunity to improve the appearance and safety of their homes and neighborhoods with the 50/50 cost sharing Sidewalk Replacement Program.

Did you know that Lancaster has implemented mandatory watering restrictions to two days a week? Specific assigned watering days are determined by your address. Residents are restricted from watering between 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Although, hand watering and using soaker hoses are permitted at any time.
