Lancaster Observes National EMS Week

"Called to Care” is the theme for the 42nd annual National Emergency Medical Services Week which is observed this year the week of May 15th – 21st. The week-long celebration of paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) started with a presidential proclamation by President Gerald Ford. EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line." With unyielding steadiness, they bring care to those who need it most.

During Emergency Medical Services Week, we salute the EMS providers in Lancaster and throughout the nation for their commitment to protecting the public, being polite and returning home safe. Let us honor their service with a renewed commitment to them.

For more information on National EMS Week visit www.acep.org/emsweek or call the Lancaster Fire Department at (972) 218-2600.

Lancaster Observes National Police Week

Each May, our Nation salutes the American men and women who put their lives on the line every day to maintain public safety and hold accountable those who break the law. On Peace Officers Memorial Day (May 15th) and during Police Week (May 15th-21st), we recognize all those who have dedicated their lives to this vital task.

Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week pay tribute to the local, State, and Federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect us with courage and dedication. The City of Lancaster encourages all to join us as we salute and honor the men and women of the Lancaster Police Department and those men and women around the country who made the ultimate sacrifice and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime.

In honor and memory of Lancaster fallen law enforcement officer, Officer Craig L. Shaw (End of watch, June 20, 2010), a patrol vehicle with a memorial banner is displayed at 1650 N. Dallas Avenue.

For more information on National Police Week visit call the Lancaster Police Department at (972) 218-2700.

Lancaster Celebrates National Public Works Week

The 2016 National Public Works Week (May 15th-21st) theme is "Public Works Always There." This theme showcases the pervasiveness of public works. Communities depend on public works, and the men and women of the profession are always there and always ready. The Lancaster Public Works Department and the Home Depot in Lancaster have teamed up to provide a FREE WORKSHOP for Lancaster residents on how to build a rumble stone planter and how to use water efficiently. This workshop will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Public Works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens’ everyday lives. The support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets, highways, public buildings, solid waste collection, parks and canal maintenance. The efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel, who staff public works departments, is materially influenced by the people’s attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform.
