Youth Advisory Committee

The Lancaster Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) provides a platform for young residents to actively participate in shaping the future of their community. The YAC offers a valuable opportunity for youth to develop leadership skills, gain civic experience, and contribute to positive change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement: The YAC serves as a liaison between youth and city government, providing input on issues affecting young people.
  • Project Implementation: The YAC identifies and implements youth-focused initiatives and projects to improve the community.
  • Leadership Development: The YAC fosters leadership skills and civic engagement among its members.

Committee Composition:

The YAC consists of ten (10) youth members and one adult sponsor. Members are appointed by the City Council and serve two-year terms.

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in community involvement and civic engagement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Commitment to representing the interests of Lancaster's youth

Additional Information:

  • The YAC operates under the guidance of an Executive Committee, which includes a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Historian, Treasurer, two Secretaries, and a Public Relations Representative.
  • The YAC may establish additional subcommittees to address specific projects or issues.

Meetings and Terms:

The YAC meets at least two (2) times a year and as needed, or meet on the fourth (4th)  Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meeting agendas are available online [Agenda and Minutes | Lancaster, TX - Official Website (lancaster-tx.com)].

  • Terms: Board members serve two-year terms for the five junior and one (1) year for the five   (5) seniors with a two (2) year term for Adult sponsor.

If you are a Lancaster resident between the ages of 14 and 19, consider applying to become a member of the YAC. By participating in the YAC, young people can make a positive impact on their community while developing valuable life skills.
